At Ubongo, we entertain kids in Africa to learn and love learning. Our interactive edu-cartoons are watched by over a million families in East Africa, and we’re expanding fast! We produce the hit TV edu-cartoon Ubongo Kids, which teaches math and science through fun, animated stories and catchy original songs. Viewers can interact with the show from basic mobile phones, answering questions while they watch and getting encouragement from their favorite cartoon characters.
We’re looking for a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) Educator to work with us full time, ensuring educational quality of our STEM content, including animated episodes, radio programs, eBooks and digital apps. You will set learning objectives for content, then work closely with our production team through each stage of the production process, from outlining and storyboarding, through to final animation, to ensure that we’re creating the best learning content possible. You’ll also work with our research team to continually test and improve our content, teaching style and interaction with kids.
REQUIREMENT:
1. Minimum diploma in education, degree preferred and minimum 2 year work/field experience in classroom in teaching in science, mathematics and technology
2. Proven track record and passion for teaching children in STEM
3. Great communication skills
4. Fluency in English and Kiswahili
5. Flexibility in modes of instruction
6. Good Attention to details – written and audio
7. Ability and willingness to learn new tasks and software as required
8. Ability to work independently and use time effectively
9. Ability to work as part of a team and lead a smaller team, whilst maintaining effective working relations with supervising personnel and co-workers
10. Educational advising on Ubongo Learning TV shows, radio show, ebooks, digital app and client projects aimed at children aged 7-13 years old
TASKS:
1. Setting learning objectives for content and ensuring our team deeply understand the concepts and learning objectives to be taught
2. Assisting writers with development of outlines, scripts and lyrics, and testing these with children for educational effectiveness
3. Reviewing storyboards, animatics and production content
4. Reviewing translation of TV and radio content to other mediums and languages.
5. Training and sharing ideas on different learning strategies and knowledge acquisition
6. Review and observe user testing and results
7. Communicate between production and education department
8. Continuously find innovative and simple ways to make our production more educational and fun!
