Job Summary
Our client is currently undertaking a major project in the Tanzania for Building Construction Projects within the residential and commercial sector and is seeking qualified Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team.
Responsibilities:
Reporting into Management Key Criteria: Tendering, Estimation and Contracts Management & Administration:
• Identify prospective tenders/projects
• Advise management on feasibility of identified tenders/projects
• Ensure full guidance and involvement in preparation of tender documents
• Ensure timely submission of fully responsive tenders
• Liaising with consultants and other clients’ representatives regarding modalities/special requirements of all tenders
• Keep management updated about progress of preparation and submission of tenders
• Analyse results of unsuccessful tenders with a view to eliminating any shortcomings
• Review contract documents for on-going projects and advise management on any shortcomings and need for revision thereof
• Provide adequate tender documentation for all tenders that may not be within the purview and/or capacity of other tendering department staff
• Assume total responsibility for the performance of the tendering department
• Assume responsibility for continuous training and upgrading QS department staff skill sets
• Manage on-going and new projects in accordance with contracts to ensure total contractual protection to the company
• Advise management on all matters arising out of any contract disputes and, when necessary, be the contact person for any legal entities/advisors that the company may employ for the purpose of resolving such disputes
• Advise management on existing system of contract administration, introduce and implement better contract administration process & practices
• Ensure timely production and presentation of adequate levels of applications for payment
• Ensure that the team prepares, submits and monitors variations, also advise site team accordingly & adequately
• Ensure effective and cordial communications with on-going clients and third parties
• Establishing, operate and manage cost and change control system.
• Financial management and reporting on a monthly basis.
• Progress measurement and evaluation for interim payment.
• Measurement and evaluation of cost and time change and variation.
• Measurement and evaluation of final accounts.
• Management and administration of contract.
• Contract administration and advice.
• Claims preparation
• Project analysis & preparation of cost data base.
• Estimating the Final Cost of the project and figures the size of resources required within a specified time frame of the project.
• Chairing Tender Awarded Meetings for handover Estimates to Site team and notify the project managers of any budgetary and technical concerns on the project.
• Final responsibility of tracking down the actual costs of a project to keep the budget down, as the project begins and work progresses, helps site team to negotiate & settle costs associated with outside vendors as well.

Requirements: Qualification and skills
• Must have worked as a Senior QS for more than 10 years in building construction and fit-outs
• Must have BSc, MSc, MRICS
• Must be a registered QS
• More than 5 years of experience in commercial and contractual Management in building construction projects.
• Ability to manage FIDIC, JCT and NEC
• Must have more than 8 years of experience in estimation and tendering in building construction industry
• International exposure with East African experience
• Excellent in using CCS
• Ability to read and understand drawings.
• Computer literate (MS Excel).
• Physically Fit
• Previous experience working as an expatriate on Major Projects in Africa
• Flexible in terms of availability and working hours
