Main Responsibilities
Ensuring smooth customs clearance for all shipments arriving in Tanzania in order to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of Regional Logistics Consignments;
• Ensuring the accuracy of Customs clearance papers
• Ensuring the accuracy of HS code applied to every
import/export shipment
• Keeping updated with HS code change, import-export
procedure
• Ensuring on-time submission of customs clearance papers to
authority
• Following up import tax payment to avoid overdue and
penalty(ies)
• Following up with the company transit bond balances and
ensuring all transit allocations have been reconciled with TRA
• Coordinating with OH/forwarder to arrange smooth delivery to
customer
• Perform and implement all custom clearance activities such as
following upcoming Shipments, documents transactions and
day-to-day related activities in accordance with the objectives,
policies and procedures
• Train the customs officer and provide support to the clearing
and forwarding department.
• Provide support to the logistical officers stationed at the
various borders.
• Participating in implementing the anticipated plans and
programs as per the set goals to ensure internal work
development and productivity increase.
• Participating in the development of the Custom Clearance
Section's work plan and preparing work schedules and
expediting work flow to improve efficiency of the Custom
Clearance Section.
• Suggesting plans and programs that strive to improve the
effectiveness of the Customs Clearance Section
• Following up with Operations department and Clients for
reception of complete set of shipping documents for customs
clearance purposes, and ensure its compliance with Tanzanian
regulations and exemption lists requirements.
• Following up with the Freight Forwarders, couriers and
shipping lines for freight quotations and price lists for inbound
and outbound shipments.
• Following up with shipping lines for container waiver deposits.
• Confirming vessels arrival time to Operations department for
payment purposes and release payment requisitions for CAD
shipments to guarantee availability of shipping documents
prior to vessels arrival.
• Follow up shipments and documents with the freight
forwarders and shipping lines.
• Following up with the transporter(s) to ensure on time &
complete delivery of cleared shipments.
• Keeping records of all demurrages, detentions, etc. and follow
up with the concerned buyers for settlements and implements
preventive actions to avoid customs penalties.
• Examining invoices and shipping manifests for conformity to
tariff and customs regulations
• Ensure that all drivers crossing the borders have been
identified and documentation received and subsequently
despatched for smooth clearance at the Tanzanian borders;
• Co-ordinate and provide logistics support to ongoing road in
the area.
• Establish reports based on logistics movements and distribute
them according to requirements and report daily to
management.
• Identify, mobilise resources, implement and report on special
logistics operations in respect to escort updates on- going
convoys, police and TRA officers.
• Ensure that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and
truck monitoring control systems are adhered to and that all
relevant records are maintained and submitted to head office.
• Ensure that documentation presented by drivers are in
accordance with the respective clearance documentation
created.
• Ensure that all delivery notes copies obtained from the drivers
at the borders are in accordance without shortages. In the
event of shortages indicated the Logistics Officer is to inform
management immediately.
• Ensure adequate logistics preparedness through contingency
planning and continuous logistics preparedness reviews;
• Co-ordinate logistics operations with other organisations in the
area;
• Support logistics and customs staff in other office branches
• Supervise staff as required;
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
• At least a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• At least two to three years’ experience in Clearing and Forwarding in Tanzania
• Team Player, Effective Interpersonal and Coordination skills
• Sound General Business Practice and Experience, able to work autonomously and in a team

• Previous experience of a minimum of two years working with a clearing company in Tanzania
Languages: Fluent in English and Kiswahili
