POSITION: Cultural Affairs Assistant – Academic Exchange Program and Alumni Coordinator

SALARY: Ordinarily Resident (OR): FSN- 7; (Step 1- TZS 21,408,180 through Step 13- 32,112,276 per annum)
Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): FP- 7
*Final grade/step for NORs will be determined by Washington.

The US Mission in Dar es Salaam is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Cultural Affairs Assistant – Academic Exchange Program and Alumni Coordinator in the Public Affairs Section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The Cultural Affairs Assistant creates awareness and conducts the day-to-day running of post’s academic exchange programs, assists the Cultural Affairs Specialist in these programs and works closely on cultural and educational advising programs with the Cultural Affairs Section team.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Academic Exchange Programs:
60%
The CAA manages the Public Affairs Section’s long-term strategy for academic exchanges programs. She publicizes academic exchange activities, recruits candidates for academic exchange programs, coordinates the screening of applicants, and works with key officials such as university vice-chancellors and deans of faculty to ensure that they are aware of the opportunities available for exchanges, and advises on the suitability of candidates. She ensures that all application materials are completed and submitted in a timely manner. She provides orientation and other assistance to participants in exchange programs on their arrival in the country or before their departure for the U.S. Complete all required statistical and programmatic reports on Academic Exchange Programs.
Alumni Coordination:

As Alumni Coordinator, the CAA conducts outreach and administration of alumni programming; manages and applies for available funding for Alumni programs; utilizes the Alumni Archive and promotes the State Alumni Website; uses resources like the American Corners for Alumni Activities; reaches out to NGOs, universities, and other organizations to build a sustainable alumni association; ensures alumni activities are integrated into regular post programming; organizes regular alumni activities in and outside of Dar es Salaam; seeks opportunities for alumni through other State Department and ECA program offices; and completes all required reports on Alumni programs.
Youth Outreach programs:
15%
The CAA works with youth organizations, educational institutions and community-based groups to improve communication skills through regular Student Enrichment Programs held in Dar es Salaam and throughout Tanzania; assists the LES in charge of Educational Advising in providing a foundation for educational planning, academic exchange and American Studies; and completes reports on youth outreach programs.
Cultural Affairs Coordination:
5%
The CAA assists the Cultural Affairs Specialist with arts and other cultural programs; assists the LES responsible for International Visitor Exchanges; works with the press section to ensure publicity for cultural activities and with the IRC for research and outreach; completes reports on cultural affairs programs.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in American Studies; International Relations, Education, Liberal Studies, Management, or related field is required.
Experience:
Two years’ work experience is required. Alumni of USG programs is required
Language:
Level IV (fluent) (writing, reading and speaking) in English and Kiswahili is required. (This will be tested)
Skills and Abilities:
Basic computer skills required, including the ability to conduct internet research, use word processing, spreadsheet, and database software is required.

Management will consider when determining successful candidacy: nepotism, conflicts of interest, budget, and residency status.
Current OR employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply. Current OR employees with an Overall Summary rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
Current NOR employees hired on a Family Member Employment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless they have a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
