A German company that operates in Tanzania. It is a vibrant and dynamic start-up company that consists of an international team bringing off-grid energy to rural locations in East Africa. We develop, engineer, finance and operate sites in developing world communities as well as provide reliable backup to business customers in the region.
Our vision is to be the first choice energy partner for off-grid solutions; both big and small. We aim to enable businesses with cleaner and more affordable power as well as provide convenient and reliable power to rural communities.
Our company installed our first system at the end of 2014 and since then we have been ramping up our business throughout Tanzania and are in the midst of expanding the business further afield.
The job is based in Arusha, Tanzania. You will work closely with the General Manager as well as the Engineering team. This job necessitates a candidate who is able to work independently and of their own initiative to deliver meet the companies goals.
Responsibilities
• Schedule, manage and implement all new projects of Rafiki Power in Tanzania, including a minimum of 20 new mini-grids up to end of 2019
• Supervise subcontractors throughout installation of the projects to ensure work is delivered on time and to high quality standards
• Where appropriate define and implement new processes and procedures to ensure learnings are captured and future mistakes mitigated.
• Where necessary travel to sites to oversee works being completed
• Assist in ancillary processes such as tenders and procurement
• Feedback lessons learnt to the rest of the team, including on technical setup of the systems
• Ensure health & safety compliance at all times

Required Qualifications
• Good university degree in science, engineering, project management or similar and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• Project management experience in an engineering/technical setup is required
• Experience managing contractors and working with external parties is required
• Technical knowledge in energy systems, preferably involving solar PV, batteries and diesel generation is a big plus
• Ability to work with multidisciplinary, international team in multiple locations
• Fluent in English, in speech and writing. Swahili in addition is preferred.
• Familiar with Tanzanian / East African cultures; work experience in Tanzania or neighbouring countries preferred
• Must hold a valid driver’s license
