AGRICULTURAL FIELD OFFICERIITA-TZ-R4D-022/17-NRS-DSM
IITA is looking for a suitably qualified person to fill the position Agricultural Field Officer for their project on ”Strengthening Capacity for Implementing Priority Actions on Resilient Food Security in Tanzania”. He or She will work directly under the IITA’s project’s focal person and collaborate with the project implementing agencies – FAO and ICRAF as well as the partners from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries ( Tanzania mainland) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources Livestock and Fisheries, Zanzibar

Duty Station: The position will be based in Morogoro
Job requirements:
• The candidate should have a diploma/ first degree in agriculture (crop production, agronomy, soil/NMR)
• At least three years’ experience in provision of extension services
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Mus~ be a results orientated leader who can manage and satisfy multiple and at times conflicting organizational, partner and other stakeholder demands
• Must have solid public relations skills and a strong team player
• Has good interpersonal and networking skills
• Demonstrated success at developing strategic plans, partnerships and effective partnerships in the development and agricultural sectors.
• Computer literacy ·
• Good communication skills
• Aoility and willing to work under pressure
• Ability to write reports
Responsibilities
• Establish strategic relationships with heads of MATI/ KATI and district Agriculture Office found in the project area
• Identify sites for, and establish demonstration plots.
• Implement and coordinate the field activities at field level
• Assist focal persons at MATl/KATI , farmers and or extension staff to administer tools provided to collect data from demonstration sites.
• Identify existing partnerships and initiatives on resilient food and nutrition in the project mandate areas.
• Write summary reports from implemented activities and contribute to writing of technical reports
• Inform project manager and other project partners about the progress achieved and ensure timely output and feedback.
General information:
The initial contract for the position is two years w ith possibility of renewal. This is a nationally recruited position and IITA offers a competitive remuneration package. The candidate should have a MSc. in Project Management, Agriculture or Related field 0 • At least four years’ experience in similar/ related position:
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, but also participate as a team member in accomplishment of duties
• Knowledge of basic accounting will be an added advantage
• Excellent written and oral communications skills, good judgment and high level of respect for confidentiality.
• Ability to work in a multi – cultural environment
• Ability and willing to work under pressure
Responsibilities
• Follow up with project implementing team to ensure reports are submitted in a timely manner.
• Follow up with HQ to ensure that project partner payments are executed in a timely manner.
• Provide research related project management secretarial services
• Assist in compiling and reviewing reports for submission to donors while complying with donor reporting templates and schedules.
• Follow up with the Program Accountant to ensure that project reports are done in a timely manner and expenditures are a reflection of approved project budget line items.
• Keep records of deadlines for submission of work plans, and technical and financial reports to ensure these are prepared and submitted in a timely manner.
• Assist the project focal person and senior field manager in monitoring closely the project execution and provide feedback, advising on action to be taken with regard to project extensions, budget
reallocations and any other action.
• Organize the partners meetings per IITA’s schedules
• Continuous monitoring of program activities and support preparation of annual reports and progress updates as requested. .
• Develop and maintain an efficient filing system and databases for print and electronic files/ documents on program activities and projects.
• Overview and handle accounting, administrative and logistical issues in relation to the project
• Any other duties related to project management and program support as may be determined by the Project Leader.
• Provide communication support between the project and all its partners
• Work closely with ad min. team to coordinate and support the project-related travels – this includes assigning the project vehicle; follow-up with the partners
• Establish research and project management data records for the project.
• In coordination with the Focal person and the Senior Field Manager assist in organizing meetings
• Prepare and store meeting minutes, documents and reports as appropriate
• Work closely with the Finance and Accounting teams at the Hub and HQ to monitor spending of projects funds, preparations and submission of financial reports
• Provide support to the MALF, MANRLF and PO-LGAs team members in accessing and accounting for the advances
• Develop and maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment and materials belonging to the project and ensure proper maintenance.
